Please note: Bora Bora Lagoon Resort is presently closed and will reopen in March 2011.

Though the resort is only a few years old, this is the Bora Bora experience you've been hearing about all your life — coral reefs, crystal blue water, and dense green jungle. The resort is secluded and exclusive, situated amidst the dense vegetation of the island. Bungalow living is the norm here — 44 thatched huts sit on pontoons above the lagoon's calm waters, and the larger bungalows (including suites) sit on the beach or in the island's lush gardens. The six smaller “end-of-pontoon” bungalows are perhaps the most visually striking, with unbroken views across the lagoon, facing Otemanu, the fragmented remnant of the volcano that created Bora Bora, and glass-topped coffee tables that serve as windows into the undersea life. The earthbound bungalows and suites have such modern resort trappings as private plunge pools, outdoor showers, and DVD players, in case you are not impressed by the stunning view of the volcano.

Obviously, this is the perfect place for a honeymoon or other quiet getaway, the ideal environment in which to lose yourself and enjoy some peace and quiet. But there is plenty to do, for those guests who are easily bored or hard to impress. The diving and snorkeling here is first-rate, among the best in the world, and the peaceful waters of Bora Bora Lagoon are ideal for canoeing and kayaking. Thrill-seekers will prefer jet skiing, waterskiing, and parasailing, and those guests who prefer to commune with nature can go for a swim in the Lagoonarium, an aquatic park, with undersea caves, coral, and plenty of fish.

Bike rentals are available, for touring the island, and helicopter tours can be arranged as well, but the preferred method of sightseeing has to be the luxury yacht cruise. Like everything else here, the cruises are in the grandest of styles — it strains the definition a bit to call a 230-foot ship a yacht. This is more like a floating mini-hotel, like a cruise liner without the shuffleboard, making stops in the most secluded places all around Bora Bora and its leeward island neighbors. This is your chance to watch a classic film on a deserted island under the stars — or just stay in your pontoon bungalow and watch the fish swim by through the glass of your coffee table. You are not likely to forget either experience anytime soon.

How to get there:

Guests fly into Tahiti Faa'a International Airport and then transfer to the domestic airline - Air Tahiti or Wan Air - for the 40 minute flight to Bora Bora. From Bora Bora it is a 15 minute boat ride on the hotel's private launch to Bora Bora Lagoon Resort & Spa.
