There’s more to the Dominican Republic these days than just massive all-inclusive resorts. Today the crowd-shy luxury traveler has more options than ever, including the Zoetry Agua Punta Cana, just west of Punta Cana.
Set on ten acres of island paradise, looking out over two hundred yards of sparkling white sand beach, it certainly doesn’t lack for atmosphere — the villas, modern enough below the roof line, are topped with traditional-style thatched roofs, lending an extra measure of unpsoiled jungle ambience.
However, a desert-island film set it certainly isn’t — Zoetry is state-of-the art modern hospitality, and the facilities reflect that. Guest rooms are beyond spacious, crossing over into whatever’s next — vast? sprawling? — and outfitted with the full complement of electronic diversions. The palette is neutral, but not dull, and the material quality of the place shines through — rich hardwoods, high-end fixtures, and deep black slate in the showers. Deep soaking tubs are standard, and move beyond the basic junior suites and you’ll be rewarded with private plunge pools or a frontage on the long serpentine pool that winds across the property.
An elaborate and intensely relaxing spa is de rigueur for a resort like this, and on that count, Zoetry Agua Punta Cana doesn’t disappoint — the Phytomer spa uses products derived from indigenous ingredients like sugar cane and pineapple. And of course there’s plenty else to do, from scuba diving and deep sea fishing to Tai Chi, tennis and golf.
